Laptop CPU Review: 10th Generation Intel Core i3 1005G1

The i3 1005G1 by Intel is a part of its 10th Generation Ice lake lineup and can be found in budget and mid-range laptops. It is powered by 2 sunny cove cores with 4 threads with a base clock of 1.2 GHz and 3.4 GHz. The i3 1005G1 is based on the 10 nanometers architecture this allows the 1005G1 to draw less power and yield higher IPC (instructions per cycle) compared to its 8th generation counterparts (i3 8130U and i3 8145U).

The higher IPC allows the ice lake CPUs to yield 18 percent more performance at the same clock speeds. The TDP of this Chip is specified by intel to be at 15 Watts but can vary anywhere from 13 to 25 watts. It also has support for new faster system memory of up to 3200 MHz DDR4 memory and 3733 MHz of LPDDDR4 memory though this feature has practically no impact on its performance. Other features include Deep Learning Boost technology by intel for faster AI-based computing and the integration of WiFi 6 and Thunderbolt.

10th Generation Intel Core i3 1005G1

Performance | 10th Gen Intel Core i3 1005G1 (Good or Bad)

The Intel Core i3 1005G1 when it comes to real-world performance is a lot better than its 8th generation counterparts and is roughly 15 percent faster compared to i3 8145U and is about 7 percent slower compared to 11th gen Intel Core i3 1115G1.

It can easily handle your day-to-day tasks such as Browsing, Streaming, and using office productivity software. However, if your day-to-day workflow involves using video editing, photo editing, and CAD applications we recommend going for either a quad-core Ryzen processor or 8th gen Intel i5 or above. The 10-nanometer process allows the i3-1005G1 to run relatively cooler and consume less power compared to the previous generation.

IGPU: Intel UHD Graphics G1 ( How is the 10th Gen Intel Core i3 1005G1 for gaming )

The 1005G1 also houses a brand new GPU which is significantly better than the previous-gen UHD 620 Graphics. The new Intel UHD Graphics G1 has 32 processing cores versus the 24 cores found on the Intel UHD 620 Graphics. You can expect up to 25 percent more performance from the UHD Graphics G1 when compared with the UHD Graphics 620.

3D Animation and Rendering

  • Cinebench R20
  • Cinebench R15

Based on cinema 4d the Cinebench R20 measures CPU performance in animation, 3d-modeling, simulation, and rendering. Single-core performance measures the responsiveness of the software under active workloads while the multi-core score measures the CPU’s ability to handle tasks such as rendering, encoding, and other workloads that benefit from better multi-threaded performance.

Cinebench R15 Score is based on cinema 4D and is the predecessor of Cinebench R20 benchmarks.

  • Geekbench 5

The GeekBench Single-core score can be used to estimate the real-world performance of day-to-day applications such as Ms word, Google Chrome, and several games. The GeekBench Single-core score can be used to estimate the real-world performance of a CPU under professional workloads such as data compression, 2d/3d rendering, machine learning, and physics simulation(CAD applications).
