Laptop Review: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-HE169TS

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS is powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS and NVIDIA GTX 1650ti 4 GB VRAM and AMD Radeon RX Vega 6. Other key specs include 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. The Display here is a 14 Inches FHD (1920 x 1080) Panel.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS is a great laptop for almost everyone. The only issue here is the 8GB RAM but you can easily upgrade it. Thanks to its 6 cores and 12 Threads and portable chassis it is a great laptop for content creators on the move like photographers and Filmmakers.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS powered by the 6 core AMD Ryzen 5 4600HS is almost 2 times as powerful when compared with its last-gen counterparts and the 4600HS is comparable to the 9th Gen i7 9750H in terms of performance. The GTX 1650TI, on the other hand, is an entry-level GPU with limited potential for GPU intensive tasks such as 3D rendering and Gaming. Now compared to the previous GTX 1650Ti is about 10 percent more powerful than GTX 1650 and is about 5 percent slower when compared to GTX 1060. The RAM and storage of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS are configured at 8 GB and 512B SSD. The 8GB DDR4 RAM runs in single-channel at 3200 there is one SO-DIMM slot available and is upgradable up to 24GB. The 512GB of storage here is an M.2 NVMe SSD.

Design and Build Quality

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 Right ports and hingeASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS has a magnesium-aluminum chassis with a smooth finish with a slight texture that hides fingerprints. The Back of the device has 1215 mini LEDs which are programable which gives it a unique look.  The chassis is quite rigid and feels quite solid. The lid has very little flex and when you open the lid the hinge lifts the base of the laptop which allows for better air-flow. Now considering its built quality and performance the device is surprisingly light and weighs in at 1.6 Kg.

  • 1x 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C
  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • 1x Type C USB 3.2 Gen
  • Display Port 1.4
  • 1x HDMI 2.0b

You can remove the bottom panel of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS can be removed easily once you remove the 14 Philips head-screws. This will allow you to access the following:

  • 1x SODIMM slot
  • 1x M.2 SSD
  • Battery
  • WLAN module below m.2 SSD

Keyboard and Trackpad

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS has a chicklet style backlight keyboard. The Numpad is missing on this one and the typing experience is above average. The trackpad on the other hand has a smooth glass surface with windows precision drivers is great for day-to-day use.

Battery: 76 Watt Hour

The 76-watt hour battery on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401II-BM131TS should give you about 15 hours of battery life while browsing the web. Under maximum load, it should last you about 2-3 hours at max brightness.

On the other hand with its 180-watt power adapter, you won’t lose any battery while charging through the DC adapter and you can get a full charge in about 2.5 hours which is a little slow however if you are planning to charge the device via the USB-C port you might lose battery while charging.
