ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T: A Thin Gaming Beast with 300 Hz Display
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T is powered by the 9th Gen Intel Core i7 9750H hexacore processor which is great for creative professionals and GPU here is the high-end RTX 2080 Max-q by Nvidia with 8 GB of VRAM. RAM and Storage are configured at 32 GB dual-channel DDR4 RAM and 1 TB SSD of storage. The 300 Hz display is the main highlight of this laptop. The display has excellent color coverage and is one of the best-looking displays out there. The placement of the trackpad and keyboard may feel a little weird however you will be using a mouse for gaming anyway.
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T design looks absolutely stunning and feels very rigid. considering its thin chassis the laptop runs quite cools under most circumstances. Now, as far as the value for money goes the model the ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T is ridiculously expensive and you are paying a premium for premium performance and design.
Chassis and Ports
The ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T has a 17.3-inch display as surprising as it may sound thanks to the sleek design it can still fit in most laptop bags. One of the standout design features the Zephyrus s gx701 is the keyboard that is moved down this is done to improve the cooling. To further improve cooling the back of the base opens up slightly when you open the lid for better airflow. This mechanism results in a slight flex when the device is open. Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T has a brushed metallic finish with a Copper stripe that runs alongside its edge. Overall we have to give props to Asus as this device maintains a reasonable form factor with a large 17.3-inch screen. Also, the Zephyrus S GX701GXR-HG113T has a great design and feels quite solid across the board.
The ports selection on the Zephyrus s GX701 has a great port selection. However, it does lack Thunderbolt 3 support.
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C
- DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery
- 1 x USB 3.2 (Gen1) Type-C
- 1x USB 3.2 (Gen2) Type-A
- 2x USB 3.2 (Gen1) Type-A
- HDMI 2.0b
- 1x Combo Audio jack
- 1x Kensington lock
The keyboard on the Zephyrus s GX701 has nothing special about it. It has average feedback and the actuation point is that clear and keys feel a little too soft. The travel of 1.4 mm feels a bit short and the small arrow keys have no place on a gaming laptop as it is not good for gaming. The keys do rock an individual RGB backlighting. The addition of the volume wheel on the top of the keyboard is good. The Touchpad here is bit small width and is prone to accidental touch. The surface of the trackpad is smooth but not quite accurate and is not greater fr gestures. The Numpad is but into the trackpad and can be enabled with a special key.

When compared to its previous generation, the 9750H sees a slight improvement in L3 cache and clock speeds. Intel has specified a TDP of 45 watts, therefore the i7 is only suited for bulkier Gaming Laptops with good cooling solutions. The CPU can also be configured to 35 Watt using cTDP-down, resulting in reduced performance.
The Intel Core i7-9750H is comparable to the older Core i7-7820HQ when it comes to single-core performance. However, the latest i7 9750H Coffee Lake CPUs offer a Hexa core configuration therefore you will see up to 50% faster results in multithreaded benchmarks when compared to the i5 9300H.
