Laptop Review: Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A5 (Finally a powerful and affordable Thinkpad)

The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A500 is powered by the Hexa-Core AMD Ryzen 5 4500U and AMD Vega 6 Graphics. The RAM and Storage are configured with 8GB of single-channel memory and 256GB m.2 SSD. The following configuration is well balanced and will perform extremely well while performing day to day tasks and is also well capable of handling more demanding workloads such as editing. However, the display here may not be best suited for creative professionals as the color coverage is average, to say the least. That being said ThinkPad as a brand is famous for its build quality and the E14 20T6S0A500 does have a tough design.

Design and Build Quality

The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A500 has a black anodized aluminum chassis with a plastic back. The palm rest here has a smooth textured finish. The hinge here is wide and allows for you to open the laptop with one hand but still remains firm. The temperature also remains quite cool. With its metallic and plastic composition, it weighs in at only at 1.6Kg.

Performance

The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A500 comes with Hexa core ryzen 5 4500U CPU which is comparable if not better than intel core i7 1065G7 which is the fastest 15-watt ice lake CPU. On the graphics end of the game, the Vega 6 GPU competes with Nvidia Mx330 in terms of performance. The RAM here also is quite fast running at 3200MHz but it only runs in a single channel however you can add another 8GB of memory running at 3200 MHz for dual-channel which will make the laptop perform significantly better. The storage here is only 256GB M.2 SSD but you can easily add more storage. All of these things combined make it a well-balanced and powerful system.

Gaming Performance

The AMD Vega 6 Graphics (4000 Series) should be able to handle most modern games that are not very graphic demanding such as League of Legends, Dota 2, Minecraft, CS: GO, GTA 5, and Fortnite. But consider this it only has 12 percent of the benchmark performance when compared with industry-leading AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The keyboard of the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A500 chicklet style backlit keyboard and has 1.8 mm of key travel this allows for a great typing experience. The U shaped keys have the perfect resistance and actuation points. The backlight here has 2 stage lighting which allows for a comfortable typing experience even in dark. The trackpad here is relatively short with 2 tactile mouse buttons. The trackpad here has a Microsoft Precision driver which allows for a great experience.

Display

The FHD panel on the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 20T6S0A500 has a 60Hz Refresh rate and doesn’t suffer from and noticeable issues such as backlight bleeding and PWM flickering. The display here has an average color coverage and below-average brightness and suitable for outdoor use.
